Express vs. Full Service Car Wash: What’s the Difference?

Car Care | Jul 27, 2026

What is a Full Service car wash, and how does it compare to an express wash? The two options serve very different needs, and knowing which is the right choice for you saves time and money.

At Cobblestone, we provide our customers with the best possible experience by offering a variety of car wash services. Here’s what you can expect with our Full Service and express car wash options and some advice on which choice meets your needs.

What Is a Full Service Car Wash?

A Full Service car wash is a comprehensive cleaning that covers the exterior and interior of your vehicle. Unlike automated wash options, our team members hand-clean your car during a Full Service wash.

What’s Included

A Full Service car wash includes:

  • Wheel cleaning to remove brake dust, road grime, dirt, salt, and more in the tunnel
  • Tire dressing to make the tires look darker, glossier, and newer in the tunnel
  • A hand-towel dry, completed by a team member, to remove excess water and help prevent streaks, spots, and drips
  • Interior vacuuming, a dash and console wipe-down, and window cleaning inside and out, completed by a team member

How Long Does It Take?

Full Service car washes take approximately 10–15 minutes. It’s important to remember that while a Full Service wash is a team-member-led, hands-on process, it differs from more involved detailing services and does not include features such as deep stain removal, leather conditioning, or exterior buffing.

What Is an Express Car Wash?

An express car wash is an automated, affordable drive-through service focused on your vehicle’s exterior. You remain in the car as it moves through a wash tunnel.

What’s Included

  • A fully automated exterior wash, rinse, and dry completed in under three minutes
  • Self-serve vacuums, microfiber towels, and trash bags available after cleaning
  • Dash wipes available at our Arizona locations
  • Different wash tiers with extras such as wax and ceramic coatings

How the Technology Works

Advanced VPD (Vehicle Profile Detector) technology uses sonar to map a car’s dimensions in the express wash tunnel, ensuring accurate, damage-free cleaning. Soft-touch microfiber cloth and foam mats remove dirt and debris without damaging paint.

Express vs. Full Service — Side-by-Side Comparison

Express Car Wash Full Service Wash
Process Bring your vehicle through for an automated exterior wash, with self-serve stations for interior cleaning. A staff member guides your vehicle through the automated wash, towel-dries it, vacuums inside, cleans windows, and wipes surfaces.

Cost $11 to $22, depending on extra options. $28 to $40 per wash, depending on package tier and vehicle size.
Services Pre-soak, wash, and spot-free rinse. Extras can include wax or ceramic coating. Thorough washing, vacuuming, window and wheel cleaning, and interior wipe-down.
Best For Quick cleans, dust removal, or routine car washing. Ideal after road trips, family outings, pet rides, spills, messy commutes, or whenever your interior needs extra attention and a more complete clean.

Which Car Wash Is Right for You?

Choose Express If…

  • You’re short on time or just want a quick car wash while running errands.
  • Your car’s interior is clean and you only need an exterior wash.
  • You wash frequently and have an unlimited monthly plan, so you want to maximize value.

Choose Full Service If…

  • You want a thorough, professionally finished interior and exterior clean without any effort on your part.
  • You’re preparing your car for a road trip, a special occasion, or a sale.
  • You want to protect your investment by keeping your vehicle cleaner, more comfortable, and better maintained.
  • It’s been weeks since your interior received extra attention, or you just returned from a road trip.

Full Service vs. Detailing — Know the Difference

A Full Service clean, while more involved than an express wash, is considered routine maintenance rather than detailing. Detailing is a deep restoration of your car’s interior, exterior, or both and is a more expensive, less frequent option. Full Service washes help keep your car clean between detailing appointments.

Cobblestone’s Express and Full Service Options

Cobblestone offers Express and Full Service car wash options, along with unlimited monthly plans for both, so you can wash your car as often as you want for one low monthly fee. Plus, your membership pays for itself in just two washes.

Full Service or Express: What’s Right for You?

The difference between Full Service and Express car washes is easy to remember. Express offers a fast, fully automated tunnel exterior wash, while Full Service is a more involved cleaning of your car’s interior and exterior.

Our Full Service car wash is available at Arizona locations and at our Sheridan location in Colorado, while our express wash options are available at select locations. Stop by your nearest Cobblestone location and choose the wash that fits your needs and schedule.
